Patrick McIvor, owner of Patrick McIvor Color Studio has been creating fashion forward haircolor for models from agencies such as Ford Models, Elite Model Management, Ikon Models and Wilhelmina Models for years. In his efforts, he was confronted with the challenge of creating haircolor vibrant enough to be seen on camera, yet versatile enough to endure restyling and multiple part placement without showing lines, stripes and dark/light spots. After three years of development at Cutler salon in NYC, McIvor perfected what he calls The Pleating Pattern… a technique designed not just for the models who seek him out but for real women everyday.

This time effective highlighting method can be applied in 20 minutes with 25-28 foils and uses opposing diagonals as a pattern. McIvor had to create a technique where the placement of foils appeared like it was coming from everywhere and no where at the same time. Plus, it had to be principle based so it could be recreated and understood.

“Haircolor used to be placed according to how a person wore their hair and where they paced their part. These days, with everyone having such versatile cuts and texture, it’s crucial to have color that compliments every style and part placement,” explains McIvor.
